Great Fall Kickoff!

Great Fall Kickoff!

We had a great time at our fall kickoff!  The children in elementary school dove into their new curriculum Deep Blue.  The teens loved Submerge, and the adults got into the Introduction to the New Testament class.  After a great worship service, everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck lunch.

Labor Day

Labor Day

It was actually the day before Labor Day, but Grace members were laboring to touch up paint, organize the classroom, clear brush and in general get ready for the start of a new Sunday School year.  Once again, great job, Grace!

Carpet Removal Day

Carpet Removal Day

Grace had a great turnout to remove the carpet!  After a tasty potluck lunch, everyone pitched in to move the furniture, pull up the carpet, to paint the inside door frames, and to prepare the walls for installation of new cove base, the rubber baseboard. Thanks to everyone for a fantastic job!!

Art at Grace After School

Art at Grace After School

This week the theme was art in our summer version of Grace After School, our tutoring ministry for children who live in the impoverished Alta neighborhood on Hwy 42.  Award winning West Clayton Middle School Art Teacher Joel Fitzgerald and our volunteers taught the children about creativity and art, using brightly colored pipe cleaners to make self-portraits.  Joel began his lesson by reading the story of creation from the first chapter of Genesis.  After class, the children enjoyed playing hopscotch and drawing in the parking lot.  The game brought back memories to one mother of playing hopscotch, called gigante in Spanish, when she was a girl in Mexico.  They would draw the course in the dirt make markers out of dried balls of mud.

Christmas Pageant 2014

Christmas Pageant 2014

One of the most popular events of the year is always the children's Christmas Pageant.  While the children are always adorable, they make the point that Mary, Joseph and Jesus were real people.

Grace 20th Anniversary Kick Off

Grace 20th Anniversary Kick Off

Sunday February 15 Grace kicked off a year-long celebration of its 20th anniversary with a panel discussion of church founders Marla and Larry Dalton, Sarah Hale, and Jill Allen moderated by the Rev. David Crabtree, Deacon in the Episcopal Church and WRAL News Anchorman.  It was a great morning of stories about the joys and challenges of starting the congregation.  Attendance and spirits were high to celebrate the way God has worked in and through this group of devoted Christians. #graceclaytonnc

Empty Tomb Bulletin Board

Empty Tomb Bulletin Board

Gloria McConnell, a gifted Grace member who works with stained glass, creates banners and paints, uses chalk to make a new bulletin board in the fellowship hall with the theme of Jesus' tomb.  After Easter, the stone will be rolled away.

Making Palm Crosses

Making Palm Crosses

One of the traditions at Grace is making palm crosses for Palm Sunday, the day the church remembers Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, before his crucifixion on Good Friday.  The Episcopal Church Women (ECW), young and old, make crosses at their monthly meeting.  Kathryn Adams, standing, teaches the right technique for making the crosses.  ECW meetings are a time to get together and catch up over a potluck dinner, to serve through various projects, and to grow closer to God by prayer and devotions.
